ADL History
Actually, the ADL wasn't the first attack/defend league out there, but it is the first one that is actually a decent success.
An attack/defend league was somewhat of an idea but we never put into action. We discussed it, even drew out some plans for it, and it never got off from there.
However, during the reign of [12AM], maps like dustbowl boomed your TFC refresh list. Clans were formed basically playing a/d maps, nothing else. How could you not like dustbowl? Feel the addiction please, thank you.
In June 2001, FOO$ setup a 'Dustbowl League'. The league seemed promising. The major flaws about it was that: 1) it took soo damn long; 2) it was ran by 1 individual; and 3) it only played dustbowl. Despite the flaws, the only thing good about it was the lesson not to do, and many of the clans that tried to be in it are currently playing in the ADL.
After the death of the dustbowl league, again the dustbowl clans began to roam loosely around. It wasn't until November 2001 that KiLLeR AzN, 7h3 0n3, Suicidal Bastard, and smile.dk finally proposed the ADL. Standing plainly as the 'Attack/Defend League', the idea was quickly supported.
Smack quickly made a decent website. An IRC channel was registered by mRwOndErFuL. A forum was setup by Drunken Gun, 007.
We literally bound our WASD keys to advertise the ADL. We ran around a/d clan servers with our mindless binds. We dug up the old Dustbowl League website and called all the clans that were in there, and persuaded them our way. We bugged any clan that had roots in the attack/defend scene, and soon they joined up with us.
Quickly the league attracted interest. Players from the best TFC clans expressed interest. With appeal to people of all levels, even people who weren't even involved in the league, loved the idea.
That is our history in a nutshell, and learning from mistakes and all we continue to raise this TFC community to the a/d ways. The playbook of the ADL is to provide fun, competition, and a new style of play. In doing so, we united a loose community, and we achieved our visions of fresh and competitive play on our favorite fun maps.

Other A/D Leagues
WE ARE THE ORIGINAL.
STA-ADL's exciting and innovative gameplay has influenced many other leagues (some who copy word for word excerpts of our rules page without permission).
None of them can compare to the original, but are reputable in themselves. Since the A/D community is tight-knit, it is good to know the other leagues that offer similar gameplay.
